CDV Laboratory signs agreement with Genneia to supply 80% of the energy demand of its three veterinary vaccine production plants with renewable energy.
This is a milestone for the animal health sector, as it is the first laboratory in the field to use wind and solar energy as the primary source of electricity for the operation of its more than 20,000 square meters in the Pilar Industrial Park.
Buenos Aires, October 21, 2024. – Genneia, Argentina’s leading renewable energy company, and CDV Laboratory, a company dedicated to the production of biologics for animal health, have announced a strategic agreement to supply 80% of clean energy to CDV’s three veterinary vaccine production plants located in the Pilar Industrial Park.
With nearly 40 years of experience in the large-scale research and production of biologics for animal health, CDV operates two modern production plants designed according to national and international quality and biosafety standards.
The new partnership was formalized through the private Renewable Energy Term Market (MATER), establishing a seven-year green energy supply contract, with the possibility of renewal. The renewable energy will be provided by a portfolio of Genneia’s assets, including wind and solar farms.
The combined energy consumption of the plants is 6,400 MWh per year, equivalent to the average consumption of 17,225 Argentine households. Approximately 5,120 MWh will come from renewable sources.
CDV operates in multiple global markets, offering a wide range of products and services focused on prevention. Its portfolio includes viral and bacterial vaccines, Foot-and-Mouth Disease vaccines, as well as reagents and diagnostic services.
“In 2024, we achieved that our two plants operate with electricity from renewable sources thanks to green energy supply agreements signed in 2023. Our third plant, currently under development and operational in 2025, will also join this line. This allows us to increase production for the benefit of animal health, while preserving the environment. The high-quality standards of our production facilities, aligned with international market requirements, reinforce our commitment to the ‘One Health’ concept, a vision that recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health,” stated Juan Roô, General Manager of CDV Laboratory.
Gustavo Castagnino, Director of Corporate Affairs, Regulatory and Sustainability | ESG at Genneia, added: “We are proud to provide green energy to one of the most important animal health companies in Latin America. This step reinforces our continued commitment to driving change towards renewable energy and the decarbonization of industrial processes.”
Genneia will also support the development of CDV’s third production plant
With an investment of USD 80 million, CDV is in the advanced construction stage of its third general vaccine production plant at the Pilar Industrial Park, set to become operational in the first half of 2025. This new facility is designed under the standards of World Class Manufacturing, with the goal of becoming a “green industry,” optimizing resource use and transforming the space into an efficient production hub with a focus on design, technology, and innovation across construction, equipment, and natural resource management.
Juan Roô stated: “We believe we are taking a strong step toward sustainability by achieving 80% of all our operations powered by renewable energy from Genneia, Argentina’s leading clean energy company, which reached 1 GW of installed capacity in 2024. This transition allows us to reduce environmental emissions, supported by internationally certified parks under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). This enables the delivery of CO₂ Emission Reduction Certificates, helping us offset our productive emissions and reduce our carbon footprint through a formal environmental offsetting process.”
About Genneia
Genneia is Argentina’s leading sustainable energy solutions provider, accounting for 19% of total installed power capacity, 21% of wind energy generation, and 12% of solar energy. With the launch of the Tocota III Solar Park, the company reached 1,004 MW of renewable energy capacity — a historic achievement in the country. Its wind farms (Rawson, Trelew, Madryn, Chubut Norte, Villalonga, Pomona, and Vientos de Necochea) provide 784 MW of wind power. Genneia is also finalizing construction of the La Elbita Wind Farm in Tandil (162 MW) and advancing in the development of solar parks in Malargüe (90 MW) and Anchoris (180 MW). The company already has 220 MW of installed solar capacity across three operational parks, totaling 520,000 solar panels.
